The River Chionthar is a large river that runs through the Western Heartlands. The river starts high up in the Far Hills and flows east into the Trackless sea on the Sword Coast.
Many skiffs, narrowboats, and barges make runs along the Chionthar as far upstream as Berdusk (where rapids prevent travel onward) Is said in Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast about Scornubel. Berdusk is known to have a method of winching barges through the rapids and getting them to Iriaebor
Ed Greenwood said over on Candlekeep that: (Chionthar) is eighty feet or more wide, thirty feet or more deep, slow-moving in its lower stretch (below the confluence), silty (so one can never see through the waters)
So if that's the standard, they'd be able to get to Scornubel, possibly even Berdusk, but remember they're sharing the waterways so they might anger a lot of merchants by taking up a sizable amount of the river.

Much trade flows up and down this waterway. Barges can travel as far inland as Iriaebor.
